Clemson Elementary, SUDIA celebrate Ironman send-off with ‘Tiny Triathlon’
Clemson teacher to receive $1,500 sponsor grant for Ironman competition

When: Friday, September 30, 2016 starting at 1:30 p.m.
Where: Clemson Elementary School – 581 Berkeley Drive, Clemson, SC 29631
Who: SUDIA, Clemson Elementary and Clemson University officials

CLEMSON, South Carolina – The Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc. (SUDIA), along with the Clemson University Sports Marketing Department will host a ‘Tiny Triathlon’ for students at Clemson Elementary School on Friday, Sep. 30 at 1:30 p.m. The event will honor Clemson Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Morgan Davis, who was selected to compete in the 2016 IRONMAN® World Championship taking place in Kona, Hawaii on Oct. 4.

Representatives from SUDIA and Clemson University’s sports marketing class will host a high-energy, interactive pep  rally for the elementary school’s 875 students. The Tiny Triathlon will test students and staff on their health and wellness knowledge and physical skills, as well as encourage them to stay active and healthy.

During the celebration, SUDIA will award Davis with a $1,500 sponsorship grant to support her participation in the IRONMAN® women’s triathlon event. Morgan, who has taught at Clemson Elementary for three years, is currently the 27th ranked female triathlete in the United States.

“I’m really proud to be representing my school and community at the IRONMAN® World Championship,” said Morgan.  “A friend and colleague at Clemson University learned about my love for chocolate milk, which led to the partnership with SUDIA. I’m thankful for the sponsorship and the opportunity to bring a little piece of the triathlon to my students at  Clemson Elementary.”

SUDIA Manager of Health and Wellness Programs Mickela Mitchell said Davis was awarded the scholarship due to her  dedication to children’s well-being.

“Miss Davis sets a wonderful example for her students,” said Mitchell. “We support student health and wellness through programs like Fuel Up to Play 60, so this fits right in with our efforts to encourage healthy eating and 60 minutes of play a day. Davis’ participation in the triathlon will give her students something to aspire to and the pep rally can hopefully serve as a catalyst.”
