Are You an Above Average Ice Cream Lover?

Did you know the average American consumes more than 23 pounds of ice cream per year?

Honestly, we’re all wondering now if we might be eating an apparently above-average amount this summer. But hey, we all strive to be above average, right?

It’s not that surprising that we as Americans eat that much ice cream. It’s delicious and comes in a variety of options, making it the customizable dessert we all love. When you serve it, your preferred choices are on full display.

So how popular are your choices? While you can see the most popular flavor of ice cream in your state here, America’s top 10 favorite ice cream flavors are, in no particular order:

  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate
  • Strawberry
  • Neapolitan—With vanilla, chocolate and strawberry already listed, is including this one considered cheating?
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Mint Chocolate Chip
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Buttered Pecan
  • Cookie Dough
  • Moose Tracks

Of course, you can always try a more unique flavor, like this Birthday Cake Batter Ice Cream or Blackberry Dark Chocolate Ice Cream. Whatever you choose, popular or not, your choice is anything but average.

As for how you top it, chocolate sauce is the most popular ice cream topping. Strawberries are the most popular fruit in ice cream (sorry, banana and cherry). Pecan is the most popular nut topping, even if you won’t admit to liking a scoop of buttered pecan ice cream. Of course, don’t forget to top your ice cream of choice with whipped cream.

This year, you scoff at the idea of being average. Go ahead and enjoy a cool scoop of ice cream this National Ice Cream Month.
