Celebrating National Ice Cream Day

July is National Ice Cream Month and today, July 19th, is National Ice Cream Day. Ice cream is a beloved treat enjoyed by many since 1660, when it was made available to the public. In fact, Americans love this cold, creamy treat so much that at any given time 87 percent of us have ice cream in the freezer.

There are said to be over 1,000 flavors of ice cream in existence today, including some rather unique flavors. Made with milk, cream, sugar, and sometimes egg yolks, ice cream is one of the most decadent and delicious of the frozen dairy treats. Whether you’re making your own at home, stocking up your freezer with your favorite brands, or heading out to a local ice cream shop to enjoy your favorite flavor, ice cream is a long-time staple in the American diet.

There are many ways to enjoy ice cream, including (but not limited to!) an ice cream cone, ice cream sundae, ice cream milkshake, ice cream sandwich, ice cream soda, and ice cream float. Even if you are lactose intolerant, you can still enjoy ice cream.
