Throughout the month, SUDIA Registered Dietitians have posted about many ways for lactose-intolerant individuals to enjoy the great taste and health benefits of dairy foods. Whether you have sipped it, stirred it, sliced it or shredded it, I hope you’ve tried it and enjoyed some new ways to work dairy back into your diet.
Just in case you haven’t, here’s another tip: spoon it! Get that spoon ready, because lactose-intolerant individuals CAN enjoy yogurt. While yogurt does contain lactose, it also contains live and active cultures that make it easier to digest lactose and, therefore, is well-tolerated by most people with lactose intolerance. For a lower-lactose option that will also amp up the protein in your diet, choose Greek yogurt. One of the best things about yogurt is its versatility. It’s easy to grab a carton for a quick breakfast or snack, but you can also “dress it up” by making yogurt parfaits, smoothies or using it in your favorite recipe.
Below are three of my favorite recipes that use yogurt. Celebrate Lactose Intolerance Awareness Month and make one today! Find more lactose-free recipes here.
