Dairy Recipe for Homemade Donuts

Ingredients for Red Velvet Donuts
- 1 box red velvet cake mix
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Ingredients for Cream Cheese Frosting
- 3 ounces softened cream cheese
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons of milk
Instructions for Red Velvet Donuts
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Generously grease a doughnut pan and set aside.
- Place the milk, eggs, vanilla, and butter in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and mix on medium-low speed until combined. Add the cake mix and mix on low speed until blended. Increase speed to medium and mix 30-45 seconds
- Spoon the batter into a piping bag or zippered plastic bag. Snip off a corner of the bag.
- Pipe batter into doughnut pan, filling each doughnut cup 2/3 to 3/4 full.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes, until doughnuts spring back when touched. Allow to cool in pan for 3-5 minutes. Turn doughnuts out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
Instructions for Cream Cheese Frosting
- In a large bowl using a handheld mixer, beat the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla extract on medium-high speed until completely smooth; about 2 minutes. Reduce the speed to low and gradually add the sifted confectioners’ sugar. Add in the milk. Once the milk is combined, beat frosting on high-speed for 1-2 minutes.
- Spread frosting on cooled donuts.
