MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis native and San Francisco 49ers cornerback Will Redmond will help Humes Preparatory Academy usher in its new Fuel Up to Play 60 program. The kickoff celebration for the school’s new healthy eating and physical activity initiative will take place at the school on Friday, January 20 from 3:00-3:45 p.m.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is the nation’s largest in-school health and wellness program, with more than 73,000 elementary, middle and high schools enrolled nationwide. More than 38 million students have been impacted by the program, which encourages students to eat healthy foods—such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy—and to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
On Friday, Humes Preparatory Academy will join thousands of other schools across the nation empowering students to make better decisions about their health and to change the school wellness environment, with the help of school administrators and funding through the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.
“I am really excited to start Fuel Up to Play 60 at our school,” said Marcus Glover, a Humes Preparatory Academy physical education teacher and Fuel Up to Play 60 advisor. “I’ve heard such great things about the program. Having Will Redmond come to our school and talk about the importance of the program with the students also means a lot. Everyone is very excited.”

About Fuel Up to Play 60:
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Football League (NFL) and National Dairy Council (NDC), founded by America’s dairy farmers, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods (low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. As a result of the program, 13 million students are making better food choices by selecting nutritious options like low-fat and fat-free dairy
products, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Additionally, 16 million students are getting more physically active during the school day as a result of the program.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is designed to engage and empower youth to take action for their own health by implementing long-term, positive changes for themselves and their schools. Customizable and non-prescriptive program components are grounded in research, including tools and resources, inschool promotional materials, a website and student contests.
