The Dairy Alliance partnered with South Carolina's Ag in the Classroom again this year to host a live dairy tour and presentation for teachers for a summer workshop series. Teachers watched a virtual farm tour of the Satterwhite Farm before having the opportunity to talk with dairy farmers Kevin Satterwhite and Marilyn Easter. After the farm tour and QA session, The Dairy Alliance's Mickela Mitchell presented, explaining a dairy farm's role in producing a nutritious and sustainable beverage. After learning about the different components of dairy, teachers were separated into groups for additional educational activities. The presentations and tour are normally held in person, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the workshop series needed to be virtual this year. All participants enjoyed the day on Zoom, finding the series well-executed with many learning opportunities but hoping to soon have an opportunity to visit a local dairy farm in person, too.
