The Dairy Alliance's Jana Miller presented in partnership with the Alabama Department of Education and Diversified Foods a webinar to assist school districts in their milk procurement efforts that have been disrupted by the closure of 2 Borden plants in the southeast. School districts learned about shelf-stable milk options and procurement. 98 school representatives attended the webinar.
Aseptic milk is an affordable option for schools, as it has a longer shelf life than conventional milk products. Schools will chill the milk before serving it to students. Shelf-stable milk is currently the best option for affected schools, as they may otherwise request to opt out of serving real milk due to supply issues.
