Thanks to Richlands Dairy Farm in Blackstone, The Dairy Alliance was able to bring four future dietitians, a master's student, three nutrition professors and one employee from the Virginia Federation of Food Banks out to a dairy farm for a tour. The two-hour tour was led by dairy farmer Brittany Jones, who answered the students' many questions and provided insight on worries about antibiotics and milk, cow care, cow nutrition and sustainable agriculture. After the tour, the group went to Richlands creamery for ice cream as The Dairy Alliance staff answered additional questions, highlighting the role Registered Dietitians can play in agriculture. Post-survey results show everyone who responded rated their experience on the farm a 10 (out of a scale of 1-10), with students finding great value in the day's tour.
