Dairy Drinks: Chocolate Eggnog Brings Protein to Your Christmas

Making rich and creamy dairy drinks around the holidays makes the season feel even more Christmas seasony. Eggnog has a rich, creamy vanilla flavor mixed with seasonal spices. It is traditionally made with milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla, nutmeg, and cloves. Adding whipped egg whites gives it a frothy texture, but whipped cream can be also added for a frothier texture.

Protein Rich Dairy Drinks

This homemade eggnog recipe calls for whisked egg yolks and sugar to be combined with milk, heavy whipping cream, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and vanilla to create a creamy, sweet holiday treat. And it doesn’t just taste great. Milk provides the protein you need to stay energized throughout the day.

Taste and energy combine in this holiday beverage. An advantage of homemade eggnog to store-bought is the customizations you can make. You can add more dairy to your eggnog than the cream and milk. For example, you can blend vanilla ice cream into your traditional eggnog to create a creamier chilled drink. An even more unique change to your eggnog is to experiment with the flavor.

An easy but fun flavor is chocolate eggnog made with chocolate ice cream and/or chocolate milk. To make this chocolatey twist on the classic holiday drink, first make your eggnog, replacing your regular milk with chocolate milk. This will give your eggnog an even richer chocolate taste. Plus, milk provides your body 8 grams of complete, high-quality protein. Chocolate milk has a higher total of carbohydrates, which is ideal for replenishing burned energy stores and fighting fatigue.

Whisk your eggs and sugar and cook with chocolate milk until the mixture thickens. Remove it from the heat and add in vanilla and spices. Add in the ice cream, which will begin to melt into the eggnog and create an even creamier drink.

Or you can use the gingerbread syrup from this holiday latte recipe to make gingerbread eggnog. To make this syrup, combine molasses, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring the ingredients to a simmer and whisk in water. Stir until the brown sugar is fully dissolved. Remove it from the heat and store it in a jar for use. Now that it is prepared, add your desired amount of gingerbread syrup to your homemade or store-bought eggnog for a sip so perfect for the holidays it could only be improved if Santa himself served it.

However you choose to enjoy the holiday classic, know that the real milk in your eggnog brings more to your Christmas party than a creamy sip. Check out this article to discover more ways to bring milk’s protein and balanced nutrition to your Christmas season.
