The Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund Connects Tennessee Farms and Families

A Tennessee dairy farmer’s legacy continues to bring fresh milk to families in need.

For Tennessee dairy farmers, providing milk goes beyond the daily work of caring for cows and producing a nutritious food. It includes feeding families, strengthening communities, and knowing that the work happening on the farm can make a difference far beyond the farm gate.

That spirit is at the heart of the Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund, a nonprofit organization established in memory of Tennessee dairy farmer Randy Davis. The fund helps provide fresh milk to families in need across East Tennessee, carrying forward Randy’s belief that everyone deserves access to this essential food.

“There’s a sense of pride that comes from knowing that our milk goes out to feed our neighbors and our community,” says Randy’s daughter and dairy farmer Sam Craun.

It’s a simple idea, but one that says a lot about Tennessee dairy farmers: What happens on the farm doesn’t stay on the farm.

A Dairy Farmer Who Believed in Giving Back

Randy Davis and his brother founded Davis Brothers Dairy in Philadelphia, Tennessee, in 1984. Randy spent his career caring for his cows, growing the family farm, and advocating for Tennessee dairy farmers and the communities around him. His commitment to his neighbors extended well beyond the farm and built a lasting legacy.

In 2011, Randy began organizing local milk drives in the Knoxville area and raising money to help provide milk to food banks across East Tennessee. He recognized a problem that’s easy to overlook: fresh milk is an important food for families, but it can be difficult for food banks to receive and distribute because it is perishable.

Randy saw an opportunity to help fill that gap.

His milk drives brought together dairy farmers, community members, and organizations to help get fresh milk onto the tables of families who needed it. His work became part of the legacy his family continued when he passed away in 2016.

Continuing Randy’s Legacy Through Fresh Milk

After Randy’s passing, his family established the Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund to continue the work he cared so deeply about.

Today, his family continues to operate Davis Brothers Dairy, and his daughter, Samantha Craun, is helping carry his commitment to Tennessee dairy and community service forward. The fund continues to support efforts to provide nutritious milk to families in need.

For the Davis family, the work is personal. For Tennessee dairy farmers, it’s also a reminder of the unique role farmers can play in their communities.

The connection between a dairy farm and a family’s table is usually pretty straightforward: Farmers care for cows, produce milk, and that milk eventually makes its way into refrigerators, recipes, school cafeterias, and dinner tables.

But community milk drives add another layer to that connection.

They help make sure fresh milk can reach families who might otherwise have limited access to it.

Why Fresh Milk Matters at Food Banks

Families need access to a variety of nutritious foods, including dairy. Real dairy milk is a familiar staple in many households and provides important nutrients. It’s also one of those foods that tends to show up everywhere, from breakfast cereal to mashed potatoes to baked goods.

And because milk is perishable, getting it to food banks requires coordination.

That’s where partnerships between farmers, dairy organizations, food banks, businesses, and community members can make a difference.

The Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund has helped bring those groups together around a simple goal: put fresh milk in the hands of families who need it.

From Our Farm to Your Family

Tennessee dairy farmers and the families they serve have a relationship beyond the gallon of milk that leaves the farm. That connection is what From Our Farm to Your Family celebrates, highlighting Tennessee dairy farmers and the people, families, and communities behind the milk they produce.

As part of the campaign and in recognition of Randy Davis, we’ll also be partnering with local MANNA food banks for milk drives to help connect Tennessee dairy farmers with families experiencing food insecurity.

Farm to family entails neighbors helping neighbors where they can, and that’s a legacy worth continuing.

How You Can Support the Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund

There are several ways to help support efforts to provide milk to families in need.

  • Support the Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund and its work to provide fresh milk to local families.

  • Participate in upcoming milk drives and community giving opportunities.

  • Support your local food bank or food pantry through donations or volunteer work.

  • Share the story of Tennessee dairy farmers who are working to strengthen their communities.

The Randy Davis Memorial Milk Fund was built on one farmer’s belief that feeding your neighbors is part of being a good neighbor.

Today, that idea lives on through his family, other Tennessee dairy farmers, and the communities working together to make sure more families have access to fresh, nutritious milk.
